Judy Greenberg, like so many others, is a grandmother of an autistic child. Using the knowledge and experience she has gained from working with her own grandchild, Judy heads GASAK, Gradparent Advocates Supporting Autistic Kids, which is a group of concerned grandparents doing what they can to help their own children to cope with the issues involved with raising an autistic child -- and, of course, like grandparents of all children, they are working together to have their autistic grandchildren lead the best and most productive lives they possibly can. Autism awareness is important.
GASAK meets at the following locations:
North Shore Child and Family Guidance, Roslyn, New York, on the 4th Thursday of each month from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Contact person: Margo Messina; Phone: 516-626-1971 ext. 370.
The Cody Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities, Port Jefferson Station, New York, on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 10:00 am - 11:30 a.m.
Contact person: Dr. Ellen Woodward; phone: 631-632-3127.
The Sid Jacobson JCC in Roslyn, New York, the 3rd Thursday of each month from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Contact person: Michelle Laser; phone: 516-484-1545, Ext. 200
One of the ways GASAK helps support parents and grandparents of autistic children is by selling their scarves, which can be purchased at the TOS50 retail store: http://tos50.myshopify.com/collections/frontpage/products/scarf
