My Travel Journey

We have looked into vacations spanning all climates from the glaciers of Antarctica to the sunny tropics of Jamaica. This month let’s look into a destination that has become increasingly popular for beauty and adventure – Costa Rica

This is one of the most biologically diverse countries in the world. Explore mangrove swamps, ancient rainforests and active volcanoes. The adrenaline pumps as you rappel down a waterfall, soar above the treetops on ziplines, hike through emerald green jungles and cruise down river on safari. When your muscles need a break, soak them in one of the many thermal hot springs. My clients just left for their Costa Rica vacation and I can’t wait to hear about their time in Costa Rica. They are going to have two very different experiences. Their first stop is in Arenal, where they will be staying at the Arenal Springs resort, all suites have direct views of the Arenal Volcano.

Let me tell you about some of the excursions I set up for them in the Arenal area and after they report back, I will be anxious to share with you the full extent of their experiences.

The first day they are going to hike around the National Park to the Arenal volcano. This volcano has been dubbed the world famous “Mountain of Fire” due to the fact that up until 1968, the locals thought it to be a mountain. All that changed when the supposed mountain suddenly erupted and kept erupting for several days covering more than 15 square miles with lava, rocks, and ash, affecting three towns, it’s crops, livestock and properties. The Arenal volcano remained quite active until 2010. The tour allows you to see up close, the area that was destroyed and is now regenerating, as well as the forest through which the lava flows.

The next day, Cano Negro Wildlife Boat Tour – the perfect adventure for nature lovers. Cano Negro is a wildlife refuge, and along with the Rio Frio Area, they make up a large biological humid area considered to be one of the richest in biological diversity in Costa Rica. At Los Chiles, they will board a boat that will take them on a floating Safari through the rain forest. There are many different types of birds. Among the most commonly seen are the Anhinga, the Roseate Spoonbill, Wood Storks and the jabiru, the largest bird in Central America and quite endangered. Looking close to the shore, they will see Howler Monkeys, Spider Monkeys and White-faced Monkeys, as well as the Three-Toed sloth and reptiles like caimans, Jesus Christ Lizards and Turtles. This day is going to be something totally different and amazing – not like your typical day in Plainview; I can’t wait to hear all about it.

Their final excursion in the Arenal area is the Canopy Zip Lining Tour.  This canopy tour looks like a whole lotta fun and I’m sure my client will have plenty to say as he takes his family on this ride that consists of 15 cables and 18 platforms, which are divided into three sections that are found mostly in the trees and designed to provide visitors with a greater contact with nature.

After communing with nature in Arenal, the clients will then transfer to the Westin Golf Resort and Spa, an all-inclusive resort in Guanacaste located between the exotic forests and the unspoiled beaches of the North Pacific Riviera of Costa Rica. Here they will spend a few days enjoying golf, and everything the resort has to offer.

What makes Costa Rica such a desirable vacation spot is, as you can see from this column, the diversity of experiences this country offers. In planning this trip for my clients, it has absolutely been added to my bucket list.
