Once upon a time we were 13 colonies tied to the Kingdom of Great Britain.  July 4th commemorates the day our Forefathers signed the Declaration of Independence, thus declaring our independence as a nation unto ourselves.

Did you know that John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, signers of the Declaration of Independence and later to become Presidents of our great country, both died on the same day, July 4, 1826, the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence -- or that  our 13th president, Calvin Coolidge, was born on July 4, 1872?  James Monroe, the fifth president of the United States, another important patriot, died on July 4, 1831.

And on this day in 2018, we think of and pray for another American hero, Senator John McCain.  We hope Senator McCain recovers from his current illness.  However, whatever your politics are, and mine are quite liberal, John McCain should be respected and remembered for his love of country, his civiity and his morality.

Whether you are a genuine "Yankee Doodle," born on July 4th or, like me, just a proud citizen of our great country, enjoy the celebrations taking place on America's birthday.
