Important Happeningss Around Christmas


People all over the world look forward to celebrating Christmas by coming together with friends and family, exchanging gifts, sharing holiday food, purchasing and decorating Christmas trees, et cetera … and while this is

happening, over the years Interesting events have taken place

Some famous people were born on Christmas, like, for example:  Sir Isaac Newton, in 1642; Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross, in 1821; Humphrey Bogart  in 1899;  and Helena Rubinstein in 1870, among others.

In the year 336, after Roman Emperor Constantine declared Christianity to be the preferred religion of the empire, Rome celebrated its first Christmas.

In 1776, George Washington and his troops crossed the Delaware River on the evening of December 25th, where they crushed the British army and won a surprising victory.

An event that all boomers and older seniors remember is the American space mission, Apollo 8, which entered the moon’s orbit with three men on board Christmas Eve 1969.

1814 – Treaty of Ghent signed by Britain and the U.S., ending the war of 1812. 

The Internet may seem as though it’s been around forever, however it actually had its first test run on Christmas day, 1990.

In 1991, Gorbachev quits and the USSR was no more.
